So, you’re expecting a baby—congratulations! Between setting up the nursery, attending doctor appointments, and trying to remember what life was like when you could sleep through the night, there’s a lot on your plate. But here’s one thing I always encourage Frisco parents to add to their prenatal to-do list: booking your newborn photographer.
I know, I know. You might be thinking, “I just found out I’m pregnant, isn’t it way too early to think about photos?” Actually, no. And here’s why.

If you’re a parent in Frisco, you’ve probably noticed we’re not exactly short on photographers. But here’s the catch: the photographers who specialize in newborns and actually know what they’re doing book up really fast.
Here’s what most families don’t realize until it’s too late: newborn photographers can only take a limited number of sessions per month. Why? Because newborn photography isn’t like any other type of session. We work around feeding schedules, diaper blowouts, and the unpredictability of brand-new babies. A typical newborn session takes 2-3 hours, sometimes longer if baby really needs that extra love. That means I can only photograph one family per day, and only a handful of families each month and still give everyone the attention and care they deserve.
And because Frisco is one of the fastest-growing communities in North Texas, with Medical City Frisco and Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano delivering hundreds of babies every month, there are a LOT of families competing for those same limited spots.
I work primarily with families in Frisco, McKinney, Plano, and the surrounding areas, and the clients who have the smoothest, most stress-free booking experience? They reach out during their second trimester. They’re past the first-trimester exhaustion, thinking ahead about nursery prep and baby logistics, and booking their newborn photographer is just one more thing they can check off the list early.
The families who wait? They’re the ones frantically messaging me at 38 weeks pregnant, hoping I have a last-minute opening. Sometimes I do. Often, I don’t. And I hate turning away families, but it happens more than you’d think, especially during spring and fall when we’re all busy with other types of sessions too!

Here’s my recommendation for Frisco families: book your newborn photographer during your second trimester- ideally between weeks 20-28.
Why this window?
That said, if you’re reading this and you’re already in your third trimester (or baby is already here), don’t panic. Many Frisco newborn photographers (including me) keep a few spots open for last-minute bookings or work with flexible scheduling. It’s always worth reaching out!

Once you’ve secured your spot with a Frisco newborn photographer, the process should feel seamless and supportive. Here’s what happens when you book with me:
Immediately After Booking: You’ll receive a detailed questionnaire so I can learn more about your vision, preferences, and any specific requests you have for your session. The very next day, you’ll get a comprehensive prep guide that walks you through everything—what to wear, how to prepare if we’re doing an in-home session, and what to expect on the day of your newborn photography session.
One thing that sets my process apart: I offer both natural, relaxed lifestyle photography AND what I call “Heirloom Newborn Portraits”—gently posed newborn images on my beanbag that look polished and professional, the kind you can hang on your wall. You get the best of both worlds in one session: candid family moments around your home and those classic, timeless newborn portraits that feel like they came from a studio.

Leading Up to Your Due Date: As we get closer to your due date, I’ll check in to make sure you’re feeling prepared and answer any last-minute questions. There’s no stress or pressure—just a friendly touchpoint to ensure you feel confident and ready.
After Baby Arrives: Once your little one makes their debut, let me know! We’ll schedule your newborn session for sometime within the first 2-3 weeks after birth. This is the ideal window because babies are still super sleepy, curly, and squishy—perfect for those classic newborn poses. But I’ve photographed plenty of beautiful sessions with babies who are closer to 3-4 weeks old and older, too. Life with a newborn is unpredictable, and flexibility is key.

In my experience working with families in Frisco, Prosper, Little Elm, and surrounding areas, most of my clients book 8-12 weeks before their due date.
But I also have clients who book as soon as they announce their pregnancy (usually around 12-16 weeks), especially if they:
If you’re a planner, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with booking early. In fact, I love when families reach out in their first or second trimester because it gives us time to build a relationship before the big day. Plus, it’s one less thing on your mile-long prenatal to-do list.
Yes! While I always recommend booking in advance, I understand that life doesn’t always go according to plan. Maybe you didn’t realize you wanted professional newborn photos until after baby arrived. Maybe your original photographer fell through. Maybe you’re reading this at 2 a.m. while nursing your one-week-old and thinking, “I need to capture this.”
Here’s the good news: many Frisco newborn photographers (myself included) keep a few spots available for last-minute bookings. If you’re past your due date or baby has already arrived, reach out as soon as possible. The earlier we can schedule within those first two weeks, the better—but even if we’re past that window, we can still create beautiful images.
I’ve worked with plenty of families who didn’t book until after baby was born, and we’ve still captured stunning, timeless photos. Newborns are photogenic at any age, and I’m experienced in working with older newborns who might be a little more alert and wiggly.

If you’re considering maternity photos in addition to newborn photos, booking both sessions with the same Frisco photographer has some real advantages:
I love when families choose to do both because it allows me to tell the full story—from anticipation to arrival. And honestly, there’s something so sweet about documenting that belly and then, just a few weeks later, meeting the tiny human who was in there.
One of the most common questions I get from Frisco families is: “Should we do our newborn session at home or in a studio?”
Here’s what I tell them: You don’t have to choose.
As a hybrid lifestyle photographer, I offer the best of both worlds. My approach blends natural, relaxed lifestyle photography with gently posed Heirloom Newborn Portraits—so you get candid family moments AND those classic, wall-worthy images all in one session.
Your Home: Many of my Frisco clients choose to have their session at home, especially if they want to capture the first days in their nursery or feel more comfortable staying in their own space with a brand-new baby. I bring my equipment, including my beanbag for those beautiful posed newborn shots, and we create magic right where you are.
My Lifestyle Studio Houses: If you love the idea of an in-home lifestyle session but don’t feel your home is quite right for photos, or if you’ve done sessions at home before and want a change of scenery, I have two thoughtfully designed lifestyle studio houses. One is located in McKinney and the other in Plano. These spaces are curated to feel warm, inviting, and natural, giving you that cozy in-home vibe without any of the prep or worry about cleaning your house!
It’s the perfect option for families who want:
No matter where we shoot, you’ll get my signature hybrid style: natural lifestyle moments with your family and those timeless, gently posed Heirloom Newborn Portraits that belong on your wall.

Not all newborn photographers work the same way, so here are a few questions to ask before you book:
1. What’s your photography style? Some photographers specialize only in posed studio newborn shots, while others focus exclusively on lifestyle candids. Ask if they offer both or if you’ll need to choose one style. (With my hybrid approach, you get the best of both worlds, relaxed lifestyle moments AND beautiful posed portraits in a single session.)
2. Do you offer multiple location options? If you’re not sure whether you want to shoot at your home or prefer a studio setting, ask if your photographer has flexibility. My clients love having the option to choose between their own home or one of my lifestyle studio houses in McKinney or Plano, depending on what feels right for them.
3. What’s your turnaround time? Ask how long it takes to get your edited images back. Turnaround times can range anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months depending on the photographer. My turnaround time is generally 2-3 weeks!
4. What’s your experience with newborn safety? Newborn safety is non-negotiable. Make sure your Frisco newborn photographer is trained in safe posing and handling. Ask about their process for keeping baby comfortable and secure during the session.
5. What’s included in your packages? Some photographers include digital images, prints, albums, or a combination. Others charge a session fee and you have to purchase your favorite photos after you see them. Make sure you understand what you’re getting so there are no surprises. You can view my pricing and inclusions right here.
6. What happens if my baby arrives early or late? Babies don’t follow schedules. Ask how your photographer handles due dates, scheduling and reserving sessions when you don’t know when your baby will arrive.

Let’s talk about pricing for a second. I won’t sugarcoat it- professional newborn photography is an investment. You’re not just paying for an hour of someone’s time; you’re paying for years of experience, professional equipment, editing expertise, and a curated client experience.
In Frisco and the surrounding DFW suburbs, newborn photography pricing can range pretty widely depending on the photographer’s experience, style, and what’s included. Some photographers offer mini sessions starting around $300-$500, while full newborn sessions with a seasoned photographer can range from $800 to $2,000+.
Here’s why booking early can matter from a pricing perspective:
The bottom line: if you wait until the last minute, you might have fewer options and end up paying more. Booking during your second trimester gives you time to budget, plan, and choose the right photographer for your family without feeling rushed.
When is it too early to book? There’s really no such thing as “too early.” If you’re a planner and want to book as soon as you find out you’re pregnant, go for it. Most photographers are happy to hold a spot for you, even if it’s 6-7 months out.
What if my baby comes late? No problem! When you book with a Frisco newborn photographer, they’ll typically give you a tentative session date based on your due date, but they understand babies come on their own schedule. Just let your photographer know when your baby arrives, and you’ll schedule your session from there.
Do Frisco newborn photographers come to my home? Many do! In-home newborn sessions are incredibly popular in the Frisco area because they’re convenient for new parents and allow for a more relaxed, lifestyle approach. If you prefer a studio setting, there are also plenty of Frisco newborn photographers with beautiful studio spaces. Then there are photographers like me who offer both in-home newborn sessions AND lifestyle sessions in a curated studio home!
Can I get both lifestyle photos and posed newborn portraits in one session? Most photographers tend to focus on one style or the other. I offer clients the best of both worlds. I offer a hybrid approach so families don’t have to choose. You’ll get natural, candid family moments that make your heart swell AND those beautiful, timeless Heirloom Newborn Portraits that look like they came from a studio, all in one beautiful experience!
What if I don’t want feel like my house is right for photos? That’s exactly why I offer my clients the use of 2 lifestyle studio houses in McKinney and Plano! You get the warm, cozy feel of an in-home session without any of the stress of prepping your own space. It’s designed to look and feel like a real home, just without the dishes in the sink!
What if I don’t know my due date yet? If you’re really early in your pregnancy and don’t know your due date yet, use this time to research and figure out what you do and don’t want from your newborn photography experience. By the time you know your due date, you’ll likely have a solid idea of who you want to work with and can reserve your newborn session at that time.
Can I book even if I’m not sure what style I want? It’s best to understand the style of newborn photography you love most before reserving a photographer. We all have different styles, approaches, and creative processes- so be sure you’re totally in love with your photographer before “making it official”, since retainers and session fees are usually non-refundable.

I get it- when you’re pregnant, especially for the first time, it’s hard to know what to prioritize. There are a million little things competing for your attention, and booking a photographer might not feel urgent when you’re still months away from meeting your baby.
But here’s the thing: those newborn days go by so fast. I’ve had countless parents tell me they wish they’d invested in professional photos because the iPhone snapshots just don’t quite capture the same magic and they wished they’d been in the photos, not just taking them. And by the time they realize it, baby is already a few months old, and we’ve missed that tiny, sleepy newborn stage.
If you’re expecting a baby in Frisco, McKinney, Plano, or anywhere in the North Texas area, I’d love to be the one to photograph your little one. Whether you book today or reach out closer to your due date, I’m here to make the process as easy and stress-free as possible.
